this Sunday, the unusual statement from the Malbrán Institute arrived, to inform that in the wave of infections from the ORT school in Belgrano,
Delta cases of Covid
had been identified
.
The title: "
Three cases
of Delta variant
were confirmed
in the context of the Covid-19 outbreak in a school in the City of Buenos Aires."
What happened was the confirmation of an epidemiological diagnosis with data that are usually
a presumption
.
That is, the data was already known since Friday and the City did not want to release this information until, as usual, the Malbrán sequenced
the complete genome of the samples.
Until now,
there was no history
of Delta variant cases, at least in the city of Buenos Aires, being reported without the Malbrán Institute corroborating the data that the PAIS Consortium analyzes at the Ricardo Gutiérrez Hospital.
Even less had it happened that an investigation carried out by a body that depends on the Ministry of Science and Technology (Consorcio PAIS) was communicated by another that depends on the Ministry of Health.
Strictly speaking, Malbrán
had
never
released a statement on Delta cases.
The difference between the works that one and the other do is that the Gutierrez practices a
partial
sequencing
and the Malbrán,

It is
unlikely
that if in the studies carried out by Gutierrez a mutation is observed in the sample, compatible with the Delta variant, then Malbrán's work will end up denying that suspicion.

The question is not so much that, but the way in which this time the new cases of Delta were known in the City, less than 24 hours from PASO.
Malbrán sources explained to
Clarín
that "the Institute decided to release a statement in
response
to the
insistent questions
from journalists who wanted to know if the cases of the ORT school were of the Delta variant."
Although from that research center they recognized that the way in which it was reported
is not the usual one
, they also argued that "it is not common for there to be a wave of infections in a school in the City either."
In the last hours, the detractors of full presence criticized the Buenos Aires government on the networks for considering that it underestimated this type of situation.
The truth is that Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and his team found out through the media of the public confirmation of the three Delta cases.
Until now, in the cases that were becoming known, they
had handled the dissemination
of information when the Malbrán effectively gave its verdict.
The fact is that Malbrán
has not yet begun to study
the samples of the ORT students.
This Friday and Saturday there were no sequencing and they will just start on Monday.
"The results will be known in the course of the next week", said the sources of the Institute.
Another peculiarity is that
"scientific peace"
does not reign between the Malbrán and the Country Consortium
.
There were always veiled criticisms from the first to the second, considering that the information coming out of that plant is not "completely" confirmed.
In this Saturday's episode, however, taking refuge in the public interest that the issue had generated, Malbrán used the information generated by his “competitor” to report something whose
validity he
had previously criticized under his breath.
