A 61-year-old mountain climber died on the Zugspitze.
The man was on Saturday at an altitude of 2,700 meters on a via ferrata from Höllental to Zugspitze when he lost his footing, as the Rosenheim police announced on Sunday.
He fell about 50 meters and died on the spot.
A couple from Cologne observed the accident and immediately alerted the rescue control center.
A police helicopter then found the 61-year-old from Penzing on the via ferrata on Saturday evening.
A police mountain guide and a mountain rescuer from the mountain rescue service could only determine the death of the man.
A total of five police mountain guides and eight rescue workers from the Grainau mountain rescue team were on duty.
