Frankfurt am Main - Cosmetic tissues are one thing above all: practical.

They are quickly to hand, because consumers do not have to laboriously fiddle them out of the packaging.

Usually, however, the wipes end up in the residual waste after a few seconds.

So it would make sense if they were at least made of recycled material.

An investigation by

Ökotest has

now shown that this is not the case with very few providers.

In addition, some of the thin cloths contain organohalogen compounds.

Eco test: Cosmetic tissues made from recycled fibers are less polluted

Ökotest found

organic halogen compounds, AOX for short,

in six of a total of 21 products

tested. These substances accumulate in the environment. The testers suspect that the AOX got into the wipes during the bleaching process. It is therefore possibly residues of chlorine bleach. Some of these substances can cause allergies in humans, and a carcinogenic effect cannot be ruled out. The wipes made from recycled materials performed better here overall: “One more reason to use cosmetic wipes made from recycled fibers,” says

Ökotest

.

When evaluating the material,

Ökotest

proceeded

very strictly: If the origin of a product was not 100 percent from waste paper, the testers deducted two grades from the test result for ingredients.

Only six out of 21 cosmetic tissues were made from waste paper.

As a rule, consumers dispose of cosmetic tissues in the residual waste, so they are not recycled.

If fresh cellulose is used as the raw material instead of recycled material, a lot of trees have to be felled.

As a rule, the trees are not in Germany, but in South America.

The environment is then additionally burdened with long transport routes.

Ökotest: These are the best products in the test

There is also good news:

Ökostest was

able to find very good products in the test.

The products were particularly convincing in terms of suction and tear resistance.

Four facial tissues received an overall rating of “very good”.

All facial tissues in the front seats were made from recycled material.

The Rossmann product Alouette Recycling Facial Tissues emerged as the test winner.

These are sustainably produced and also convince in practical tests due to their tear resistance.

Ebelin recycling cosmetic tissues from dm are just behind, as they were a little less tear-resistant.

Third place goes to Mach with cosmetic wipes.

Daunasoft Beauty facial tissues from Norma were convincing in their use with such good values that they still received an overall rating of "good" even though they are made of fresh cellulose.
