(ANSA) - BEIJING, 13 SEPTEMBER - China is grappling with a new Delta variant firebox in the southeastern province of Fujiandove, more than 70 infections have been detected, many of which are children, still putting the 'Zero Covid' policy to the test.

Less than a month after the containment of the jungles outbreak detected in Nanjing, dozens of cases have so far emerged in the region, according to local authorities. The cluster was discovered thanks to routine tests in schools, where two students tested positive on Friday: a father of the two, who returned from Singapore in early August, was found to be infected. Health officials believe this may be the origin of the latest outbreak, in a region that is a rich multi-producer of sneakers, clothing and electronics.

There are more than 70 infections in three cities: Xiamen, Quanzhou and Putian, which in the last Sunday bulletin released today by the National Health Commission scored 22 cumulative cases. Another 13 asymptomatic were found in Putian.

The province has so far recorded 43 home-transmitted infections since September 10 and 32 asymptomatic, all under medical observation, for a total of 75 cases. On a national level, there are 27 new cases imported relating to Sunday, of which 17 in Yunnan, 5 in Shanghai, 3 in Guangdong and one each in Sichuan and Shaanxi. (HANDLE).
