At least for some fans, the sport quickly becomes a minor matter: during a college football game in Miami, a cat dangles from a railing in the stadium.

The animal tries to pull itself up ... but finally falls down meters deep.

After anxious seconds it is clear: the animal survived.

Fans of the Miami Hurricanes saved the cat by using their presence of mind to set up an American flag as a rescue net, thereby slowing down the animal's fall.

Popularly it is said that cats have seven lives - presumably because the animals usually turn on their paws and can cushion the impact well - but the cat would hardly have survived a fall from such a height without injury.

How the cat got into the stadium is not known, nor is its whereabouts.

In retrospect, videos of the rescue operation still generate enthusiasm on the Internet.

The stadium operators also thanked the fans and called for donations for an animal rescue organization.

Tweet Hard Rock Stadium:

»We are glad that thanks to the attentive fans in blocks 107, 110 and 208 the cat landed safely after a bad fall.

We wish the cat the best in the remaining eight lives.

In the English-speaking world, cats are given nine lives instead of seven, according to a phrase. However many there are, the now famous Miami's stadium cat saved a life thanks to thoughtful fans.
