There is gossip between a juice manufacturer and the supermarket giant Edeka.

The fronts harden.

Customers also suffer from this.

Nieder-Olm - Whether with or without pulp, a cold glass of juice has become an indispensable part of German breakfast tables.

According to the Association of the German Fruit Juice Industry, per capita consumption in 2019 was 31.5 liters of juice per year.

The brands “Granini” and “Hohes C” have been among the most popular types of fruit juice for years.

Both are sold by the manufacturer "Eckes-Granini" in Nieder-Olm, Rhineland-Palatinate.

However, there are currently large gaps in the juice shelves of many German Edeka stores for these brands.

“Hard negotiations” are to blame.

This is what it says on the signs that the supermarket giant has hung on its shelves.

The reason: The juice manufacturer Eckes-Granini had already wanted to increase its prices in January and thus started a violent dispute with Edeka.

It should now be held on the open stage.

"Granini" and "Hohes C": juices will soon no longer be available from Edeka - Zoff about price increases continues

While Eckes was able to quickly come to an agreement with competitor Rewe, the fronts hardened at Edeka. Instead of the popular “Hohes C” and “Granini” juices, the chain is now recommending “Edeka own-brand products and the wide range of other branded products” to its customers, according to Schild. According to the

food newspaper

(LZ), the complete range is now

missing in many Edeka stores

.

The juice manufacturer from Nieder-Olm does not want to give in.

"We have now invested millions in sustainability and that must have its price," Germany boss Kay Fischer justified his price increase in January.

In 2019, the manufacturer signed the “Sustainable Juice Covenant”, a sustainability initiative.

"We very much regret the current situation, but will not comment publicly on ongoing discussions with our trading partners," writes Granini-Eckes according to

LZ

.

The juice manufacturer is likely to be hit hard by the losses.

Edeka is a big buyer and the corona pandemic has boosted business.

Hohes C and Granini are among the market leaders in the juice sector.
