According to Section 17 of the Maternity Protection Act, there is protection against dismissal during pregnancy and for at least four weeks after delivery.

The prerequisite, however, is that these circumstances are known to the employer or that they are communicated at the latest within two weeks after receipt of the notice of termination.

In order not to burden the relationship with the future employer, however, it can be advisable for pregnant women to play with open cards right from the start and to speak directly about possible employment bans and parental leave.

According to Tatzky, however, it cannot be ruled out that “you won't even get the job.
