Public transport customers benefit from a special offer: their ticket is valid throughout Germany for two weeks.
In order to be able to take the free rides, one special feature must be observed.
Munich - Get on the bus in a foreign city and visit the sights for free: A special campaign by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) makes free journeys possible until September 26th.
The campaign starts today, Monday (September 13th).
As the VDV announces on its website, all passengers with a valid public transport subscription can use local transport throughout Germany at no additional cost.
The transport companies would like to thank those who have remained loyal to buses and trains as regular customers even during the pandemic.
Free local transport: registration required in advance
You shouldn't just get on the tram and discover an unknown city.
In order to take part in the campaign, you have to register online beforehand.
Only customers who have a valid public transport subscription are entitled to use buses and co. Elsewhere free of charge.
According to the VDV, 95 percent of the transport associations in Germany take part in the campaign.

Free public transport: Lockdowns affected local transport
The transport association is responding to the pandemic-related decrease in passengers with the free campaign.
"The second, very long lockdown from November 2020 to March 2021 has caught public transport much more, especially in the decline of subscription tickets than we thought," summed up one VDV spokesman told the
Mirror
.
With the free local transport campaign, the transport associations are hoping for increasing passenger numbers - and a boost to their image.
The number of passengers decreased, particularly due to the increasing work from the home office.
The fear of a possible infection with the corona virus also prevented public transport customers from getting on buses, trams and co. In the second lockdown at the end of last year, the comparison level was only 40 percent.
