(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 13 - Great political event at the Quirinale on Wednesday 15 September.
The president of the republic, SergioMattarella, will host as many as 15 European heads of state for a forum for dialogue that will make it possible to discuss all the major open themes on the European agenda.
This is the XVI meeting of the Heads of State of the "Arraiolos Group" or "United for Europe" which will take place in two work sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
The "Arraiolos Group" brings together the Heads of State of Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Finland. The informal dialogue forum owes its name - according to the website of the Presidency of the Republic - to the locality of the Portuguese hinterland where on 18 October 2003 the Heads of State of Finland, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Hungary met informally, at the invitation of the then Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio, to discuss the main European problems. The heterogeneity of a format that brings together absolutely different countries in terms of size, economic situation, geographical location, and the appreciation received,have ensured that over the years the Group has gradually expanded to reach its current size.
Italy has participated in the meetings since 2006 when the event was organized in Dresden and hosted in Naples, in June 2009, by the Arraiolos Group.
The busy day program foresees the arrival of the heads of state at 10.15. Following will be the meeting with the President Mattarella in the Salone delle Feste. at 11:15 am: the first session of the work, followed by a breakfast offered by the President of the Republic.
