"Dune": a cosmic epic, a science fiction masterpiece

2021-09-14T14:04:20.700Z

Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi novel finally gets a film adaptation that lives up to expectations: the movie

The wait was worth it!

More than half a century after its publication, the universe of "Dune" finally benefits from an adaptation to match the original book, itself a masterpiece, sold for more than a million. copies only in France.

Denis Villeneuve, on the strength of the experience acquired on major films such as "Premier Contact" or "Blade Runner 2049", finally breaks the curse that made the novel a supposedly unsuitable fiction.

After David Lynch's version (1984), too confused, then the one in the form of a mini-series (2000), too wise, Villeneuve delivers his vision of “Dune”, a fantasy that he has maintained since adolescence: majestic, grandiose, cosmic. Like the story he tells: that of a young man, Paul Atréides (played by an “inhabited” Timothée Chalamet), whose family takes control of a desert and inhospitable planet (Dune), but strategic, and which must immediately face violence and betrayal, and confront his messianic destiny.

With images in turn as close as possible to the characters, or on the contrary of an disproportionate scale (choose the largest screen possible to see the film!), Underlined by music by Hans Zimmer, literally shamanic, "Dune" is finally this. that the readers of the book no longer dared hope for: a cosmic epic of adult science fiction, even if it is visible to all audiences.

And this is only the first part of the saga ...

EDITOR'S RATING: 5/5
