In Lyon, the speed limited to 30 km / h from spring 2022

After Paris, the third largest city in France in turn adopts the speed limit of 30 km / h.

The ecological mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet, announced Tuesday the generalization of this measure in spring 2022. It is "in particular" intended to reduce the number of accidents.

Almost all of the roads will be at 30 km / h, except for some very circulating axes which will remain at 50 km / h ", announced Grégory Doucet on the France 3 Rhône-Alpes branch.

This decision aims to "appease the city and in particular" to "reduce accidents".

"In the big European capitals, in Brussels, in Spain or in the Netherlands, which have already been in town 30", we observed "40% less road accident, in town", justifies the mayor of Lyon.

This measure, which was on the program of the environmental candidate elected in March 2020, also aims to reduce "traffic noise" for the more than 500,000 Lyonnais, added the deputy (EELV) for mobility, Valentin Lungenstrass.

The announcement was made at the end of August by Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of roads and active mobility at the Métropole de Lyon, without having been confirmed, specifies France 3 Rhône-Alpes.
