In Halle an der Saale in Saxony-Anhalt, a one and a half year old child fell to his death from the fourth floor of a residential building.
The child fell out of a window in the Trotha district on Sunday, a spokesman for the Halle public prosecutor said on request.
The public prosecutor ordered the autopsy of the body.
It is currently being checked whether the mother, who was in the apartment at the time of the accident, may have violated the duty of supervision.
Initially, the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" reported.
No further information was given.
The first results of the autopsy and the evaluation of the traces saved in the apartment are expected in about a month.
There are currently no findings as to whether the accident is a deliberate crime, the spokesman said.
