From Wednesday, employees of hospitals and nursing homes (as well as firefighters, paramedics and home helpers) may be suspended.

A few hundred people gathered on Tuesday in front of the Ministry of Health at the call of the CGT, to protest against the vaccination obligation which will apply from Wednesday to staff of hospitals and retirement homes.

The demonstrators were about 200 - 300 to 400 according to the CGT which had launched an appeal for this rally.

"The demonstrators came to express a rather intense anger against this authoritarian injunction" which will "generate tensions and chaos", affirmed the general secretary of this union, Mireille Stivala.

According to her, "we can no longer allow ourselves to lose caregivers" by fearing "bed closures" and "degraded care for the population".

While 88% of health professionals are vaccinated, some hospitals have already been forced to deprogram non-essential interventions.

"Whether we are vaccinated or not, we are opposed to the obligation", explained in the crowd, Valérie, 57, nursing assistant of the Hospitals of Paris (AP-HP).

She also recalled that caregivers are "already understaffed" and were sometimes "forced to come to work even when sick" at the start of the epidemic.
