After 39 years, they identified this Tuesday the remains of four other Argentine soldiers killed in the Malvinas War.

One of them was

Marciano Verón from

Corrientes

.

Upon hearing the news, his relatives asked that he

remain buried in the Islands

and today they were able to participate by videoconference of the burial that took place in the Darwin cemetery.

The family of the ex-combatant met during the morning of this Wednesday to participate by video call of the

burial ceremony

in the Darwin cemetery in the Falkland Islands.

"Among all the evils that we have experienced, today we are happy and we want him to remain in the Malvinas, together with his companions.

We hope to be able to travel one day, to put a flower on his grave,

" said his brother Jesús Verón, 63, in dialogue with Télam.

He said that a few years ago they had "great hope, when they began the search and the bodies of many were identified," in reference to the 122 ex-combatants who were identified in the first humanitarian project, and added: "That time, they did not find Marciano . It

was a painful wait for many years, but it

paid off

. "

"He will have his own grave, with his name and we hope that he will be very close to his fellow gendarmes with whom he has spent the last 39 years," he exclaimed.

Originally from the Correntino department of Saladas, Jesús remembered his brother gendarme, nine years younger than him: "First he did the Military Service, he liked it and decided to join the Gendarmerie and make a career in that force and when he was in Bariloche he was summoned for war ".

He stated that "Marciano was very friendly and well loved in the town of Saladas" and asked "for an acknowledgment where he was born and raised and where we also still have a little field."

After the news of the identification, the mayor of Saladas, Rodolfo Alterats, made himself available to the Verón family to "listen to their proposals for a new tribute," a municipal official explained to Télam.

"Marciano's family, including his brothers Jesús and Carlos, asked that a tribute be held in the First Section Lomas, a rural area where it is planned to

build a monolith

with a plaque to commemorate the struggle of Marciano Verón and his commitment to the Homeland, "said the official.

The Corrientes gendarme was also honored in the place where he rendered his last service.

In 2019, in the main square that bears the name 'First Corporal Marciano Verón', of the Squadron 34 of the Bariloche Gendarmerie, an act was held to present the Declaration of 'Illustrious Citizen' of the fallen hero in the Malvinas war.

How the identification was given

Marciano Verón was born on July 23, 1949 in Saladas, Corrientes province and his identification was communicated this Tuesday by the ICRC and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, along with those of Sub-Ensign Guillermo Nasif, First Corporal Carlos Misael Pereyra and the gendarme Juan Carlos Treppo.

The 1st Ensign Ricardo Julio Sánchez and the skeletal remains of Corporal First Víctor Samuel Guerrero, who was in another individual grave, also in Darwin, had already been identified.

The identification took place within the framework of the Second Humanitarian Project Plan (PPH 2), in which the remains of several bodies that

were in a single grave

, known as C.1.10,

had been exhumed

in the Darwin Cemetery.
