In this orchestral return, two new musical directors officially take up their functions in Paris: Gustavo Dudamel at the Opera, and Klaus Mäkelä at the Orchester de Paris. Next to the 25-year-old Finn, the 40-year-old Venezuelan would almost look like an elder! Common to all the new appointments at the head of the French phalanges: they are under 40 years old. In any case, Cristian Macelaru did not have them yet at the end of 2019, when he was appointed head of the National Orchestra of France. The maestros transfer window is therefore an opportunity for a real rejuvenation of the function, undoubtedly beneficial at a time when the very status of the conductor is evolving. The music director today must be not only a respected boss and an interesting performer, but also a real coach,a good communicator and a citizen attentive to his contemporaries.
