The French have found a taste for reading since the start of the pandemic.
"In this literary season, the challenge for independent bookstores will be to retain the new readers who have pushed our doors in recent months"
, explains Guillaume Husson, general delegate of the Syndicat de la librairie française (SFL), which represents 600 bookstores from all sizes in France.

Since January 2021, their turnover has increased overall by 31.1% over one year and 17.7% compared to 2019, according to the SLF, whose members account for nearly a third of the turnover of national independent bookstore business.
