US, Great Britain and Australia launch a security partnership for the Indo-Pacific area to contain the Chinese threat in particular: an administration source reported on a conference call with the media, shortly before the leaders of the three countries spoke in a virtual vertex.
The new alliance will be called Aukus, an acronym of the three countries.
This was announced by the White House.
Among other things, the new partnership will allow Australia to acquire nuclear-powered submarines.
The partnership between the three countries "will update our shared capacity to face the 21st century and its threats together," said US President Joe Biden. However, he added, France remains a key partner in the Indo-Pacific area. There is no reasonable division separating the interests of the Atlantic and Pacific partners, Biden said.
