Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, missed diagnoses of cancer have amounted to 1 million across the EU. The alert comes from the Italian Association of Medical Oncology, on the occasion of the launch of the 2021 Congress of ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology). The interruptions to regular patient care, recorded in 2020-21, will have consequences especially in terms of cancers identified at a more advanced stage. Furthermore, also due to lockdowns, some wrong lifestyles are even more widespread. The number of new cases is also expected to increase, which could grow by 21% by 2040.
