Running towards a less hectic life: the future chosen on the basis of the hours to devote to the family. Farewell to cycling at the age of 31 for Fabio Aru who wants "a future that allows me to stay more at home", he explained in Cagliari in a long chat ten days after his last match at the Vuelta. "I could not stay out for 200-230 days. Now I will evaluate some proposals that I will accept no earlier than 2022 - he explains - But it will be a job that must keep me away from home for a maximum of 30 days".

With the prospect of expanding the family. "In the future I see marriage - he said - and the enlargement of the family to give our daughter a little sister or a brother".

Many greetings to the races. But even yesterday Aru was in the saddle: "I like to play sports I was out and about with my friends from Villacidro. At different times than when I was training for competitions.

Now I move at previously unthinkable times, at 2pm or 6pm. Every day I do something ". The lessons of a life at the top? Beautiful and ugly: "At a certain point - he explained - I became a company: many commitments even outside of training and competitions. Over the years I have needed collaborators paid by me. Someone disappointed me, I was hurt ".

The positive legacy of cycling: "it teaches you to never give up so many times in recent years I wanted to give up but I didn't. I like to remember the last team: it was the best. In other teams, maybe it's inevitable. , there are beautiful things, but also envy. Here I felt at home: if I hadn't stopped I would have continued with them ". A bit of nostalgia for another cycling: "We talk too much about numbers - said Aru - related to power meters: a climb becomes a set of figures. I would say that at least before professionalism we can do without power meters. because you risk not listening to yourself and losing certain sensations ".

Many sacrifices also in the food diet, after the retreat there was the turning point meal: "Since I was very young I have not been able to eat at Christmas and New Year like everyone else: now we ate a suckling pig with friends".
