Covid-19 in France: 65 new deaths and still nearly 2,000 patients in critical care

2021-09-16T16:18:11.789Z

After dropping below 10,000 patients in hospital at the start of the week, the number of patients treated fell again to

We feared a rebound in contamination after the start of the school year.

And yet, the epidemic is calming down in France.

So much so that President Emmanuel Macron explained that he was thinking this Thursday to adapt the restrictions, starting with the application of the health pass.

"As soon as the sanitary conditions allow it and, in my opinion, when I see the figures, it will not come so late", we will be able to "allow ourselves, in the territories where the virus circulates less quickly, to lift certain constraints" , he said optimistically.

Again this Thursday, the figures give hope.

The health authorities are again reporting a slight drop in the total number of hospitalizations and Covid-19 patients treated in critical care services.

With 382 admissions in 24 hours, 9,297 people are currently hospitalized due to infection with Covid or its variants, against 9,555 on Wednesday and 10,323 a week earlier.

During this fourth wave, the peak reached 11,245 hospitalized patients on August 30.

Among the patients followed in the hospital, 1,952 are now taken care of this Thursday in critical care services (resuscitation, continuous monitoring and intensive care), against 1,959 Wednesday and 2,195 a week ago.

Nearly 50 million first-time vaccinated

In addition, Public Health France also reports the death of 65 people as a result of Covid-19 in 24 hours, against 79 the day before.

These data bring the total toll to 115,896 deaths in France since the start of the epidemic.

Finally, the pace of vaccinations is progressing, albeit at a less sustained level than in previous weeks.

Thus, since the start of the campaign in France, more than 49.8 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 73.9% of the total population) and more than 47.1 million people now have a complete vaccination schedule ( i.e. 69.9% of the total population).
