If you think of autumn, you probably also think of pumpkins.
They are just part of it.
We'll tell you here how to grow the vegetables properly.
The orange vegetables, which actually belong to the berries, are simply a must in the kitchen.
Whether as a soup, in muffins, baked vegetables or as a cake, pumpkin dishes really always work.
If you grow pumpkins yourself, you can also benefit from a wide variety of varieties.
Growing pumpkins correctly: this is how you can achieve a rich harvest in your own garden
Growing pumpkins is quite easy if they are supplied with plenty of nutrients and water. You should start pre-growing between mid-April and mid-May. After successful cultivation, it is not recommended to expose the young pumpkin plants directly to the spring weather. Instead, you should harden them by repeatedly exposing the young plants to milder weather or by placing them in a cold frame or greenhouse.
If you have the opportunity, you should cultivate your hardened pumpkins directly on a compost heap.
If this is not possible, it is advisable to plant the
pumpkins in a sunny but sheltered place with plenty of rotted manure and humus
.
After you have watered the plants well, the root area should be mulched - straw is particularly suitable for this.
Corn, beans and pumpkin are called the three sisters by the natives of North America and they traditionally cultivated them together in order to make optimal use of the area, as kraut & beet reports.
Even today, corn, pumpkin and beans are a popular mixed culture in hobby gardens.

Growing pumpkin properly: pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seeds
If you have grown a particularly tasty pumpkin variety this year, then of course you want to keep it and grow it again next year. But beware! If you have so-called F1 seeds, then a completely different pumpkin variety will come out next year and this may not be edible at all. In general, it can be said that you should never eat a pumpkin that tastes bitter. This is a very clear sign that it could be poisonous. If you want to reproduce pumpkin seeds yourself, you should use
single-variety seeds
. You can recognize this by the fact that the label F1 is missing, because this must be labeled.
But the seeds obtained from F1 pumpkins are easy to roast and nibble on the sofa in front of a good movie.
There are many recipes for roasted pumpkin seeds on the Internet, from hearty to sweet to hellishly spicy.

Growing pumpkins the right way: This is how it works with giant pumpkins
Everyone has seen huge pumpkins, be it in pictures or in pumpkin fields.
But the vegetable giants can also be grown in their own hobby garden.
Basically, the giants need the same requirements as all other edible pumpkins with a few exceptions:
The
fruits have to be removed again and again as they grow
, so that only three remain, which then become particularly large.
The pumpkin plant can then put all of its energy into it.
These three pumpkins should also be placed
on stones or bricks,
otherwise the large fruits can rot more easily.
The giants have to be
supplied with tomato or liquid fertilizer every week
, especially the potassium it contains is very important.
