Dortmund - Mettwurst bread is a real childhood memory for many customers.

If you buy your Mettwurst from Rewe, you should take a closer look at the product: At Rewe Dortmund, the house brand product was recalled because it poses a potential health hazard.

A certain batch of onion sausage may be contaminated with salmonella.

We therefore strongly advise against consuming the affected products.

According to Rewe Dortmund, products with the expiry date of September 26th, 2021 of the batch 60805470321 are affected. The onion sausage was sold in balls over the service counters.

The company has already withdrawn the affected products.

The recall took place "for reasons of preventive consumer protection", according to the market.

However, only markets in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are affected.

Recall from Rewe: possible salmonella risk in onion mince

Customers who discover the respective expiry date and the batch number on the packaging can return the onion mince to their store and get the purchase price reimbursed without showing the receipt.

"This precautionary measure does not affect products with different best-before dates and batches," the manufacturer continues.

Anyone who has already consumed the product should definitely watch out for symptoms of salmonella poisoning.

These include sudden diarrhea, headache and abdominal pain, general malaise and vomiting, as the Robert Koch Institute informs.

Mild fever also occurs in common cases.

The incubation period after consumption of the product can be between six hours and three days.

Symptoms can persist for several days.

The company Rewe Dortmund SE & Co. KG expressly apologized to its customers in a message. Only recently there was another recall by the company because of the risk of mold: Certain apple sauce products from Rewe's own brand were infected with mold. But Rewe isn't the only market struggling with salmonella recalls. A tahini sesame paste, which is offered in several supermarkets, had to be recalled on suspicion of salmonella.
