(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 17 - The migrant emergency on the border between the United States and Mexico is growing, where according to local authorities over 10 thousand people, mostly from Haiti, have massed in recent days under a bridge that connects the city of Del Rio , in Texas, with that of CiudadAcuna.
After crossing the Rio Grande river, the migrants - also from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua - gathered in an improvised reception camp, in precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions and with temperatures close to 40 degrees. The US border police said they had strengthened the personnel working in the area to facilitate "a safe, humane and orderly process", providing, among other things, drinking water.
The migratory flows recorded towards the United States have increased in recent months. According to data provided by the American government, those detained at the border with Mexico in July exceeded 200,000 for the first time in 21 years, while in August more than 195,000 people were detained.
