Actress Sibel Kekilli misses the space for experimentation and adventure in the German film and television industry.

“It seems to me that the needs of the older audience are more taken into account than those of the younger ones.

There are almost only thrillers, simple comedies, doctor series and quiz shows, "said the 41-year-old of the" Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung ".

"As a spectator, I'm a bit offended that I'm so under-challenged," said Kekilli.

Sometimes a counterweight is needed.

For the most part, innovative, extraordinary and socio-political ideas would no longer be touched at all because they would have almost no chance of being promoted.

“There is very little space in Germany for adventure and experimentation, and when it does exist, these films are well hidden and shown at twelve at night.

And in the end it says: Nobody saw that, "she said.

In Denmark, for example, they are more courageous.

“But we always applaud the other and then at best copy it.

We rarely take the first step, ”said the actress.

Kekilli was born in Heilbronn in 1980.

She is considered one of the most prominent German actresses of her generation.

She celebrated her breakthrough as an actress in 2004 in Fatih Akin's “Against the Wall”.

She became known internationally as mistress Shae in the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones", and played the role until 2014. From 2010 to 2017 she was also Kiel's "Tatort" commissioner Sarah Brandt at the side of Axel Milberg as Klaus Borowski to be seen on German television.

The actress has been campaigning for women's and girls' rights for more than 15 years: she received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2017 for her commitment in this area.

In 2019, together with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD), she founded Unidas, a joint network in Germany, Latin America and the Caribbean that aims to promote women's rights worldwide.
