Tension is mounting in Korea.
While North Korea fired new missiles on Wednesday, September 15, South Korea a few hours later successfully fired a ballistic missile from a submarine.
An announcement that makes South Korea the seventh country in the world to have this cutting-edge technology.
The United States "condemned" the North Korean shooting carried out "in violation of several resolutions of the UN Security Council" and which "represents a threat to the neighbors". But they also reaffirmed their call for "dialogue", so far remained unanswered from Pyongyang since the arrival of President Joe Biden at the White House in January.
South Korea has strengthened its military capabilities in order to counter the threat posed by its nuclear-armed neighbor to the north, which has therefore been firing again in recent weeks.
It also seeks to regain operational control in the United States in times of war, in accordance with the security treaty signed between Seoul and Washington.
To date, all the other countries with proven capabilities in terms of sea-to-surface ballistic missiles (SLBMs) have nuclear weapons.

"Having two Koreas carrying out ballistic missile test fires on the same day is extraordinary timing," John Delury, professor at Yonsei University, told AFP.
“It just goes to show that there is an arms race in this region that everyone needs to pay attention to.
"
The UN Security Council thus announced an emergency meeting on September 15 on the shootings in the Korean peninsula.
It will be held in camera and informally.
