The last and legendary Tati store, located at the corner of Barbès and Rochechouart boulevards, in the 18th century, will close its doors at the end of September. The site comprising six 8,000 m2 buildings will have to be transformed into housing, offices and shops. But what will happen to the flagship illuminated sign "Tati, the lowest prices" installed on the roofs of the Haussmannian building? A consultation will be launched in 2022 to ask residents for their opinion on the preservation of the blue and pink neon lights that overlook the store. In the meantime, some residents of the district are already expressing a clear opinion on the future of the colorful sign.
“Either the store exists and we leave the sign, or the store no longer exists and everything is removed!
Breaths Séraphin, a taxi driver who has lived in Barbès for a few years.
“That the store disappears but that the sign remains… It's ridiculous!
», Also considers Rafaela, photographer who has lived in the district for more than thirty years.
“If you put that in a museum, you explain a bit of history, what happened and what Tati is.
But there, leave the sign there, in passing… It will be an image that does not speak!
», Presses Séraphin.
