FABRIANO - The Fabriano Paper Pavilion again accessible to the public and the presentation of the restoration intervention and the first printed edition of the precious Album created by Augusto Zonghi "The signs of the ancient Fabrianesi Paper Mills", commissioned by the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation (Ancona) a little more than a century after the death of the famous filigranologist. Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September, therefore, with reservations required (www.fondazionefedrigoni.it) it will be possible to discover for free the Fabriano Paper Pavilion within the historic complex of the Cartiere Miliani Fabriano: an extraordinary heritage made up of 1,500 watermarks, 1,200 historical photographs, over 3,000 volumes and 10,000 pieces of tools and machinery for making handmade paper,as evidence of over 750 years of Fabriano paper culture. The European Heritage Days will also frame the "Ti presento Augusto Zonghi" initiative through the Album of "The signs of the ancient Fabriano paper mills". It is an iconographic dictionary of the watermarks of Fabriano's master papermakers from 1293 to 1599, where Zonghi delighted in reproducing life-size 1,887 "signs" (watermarks) useful for dating sine data et loco documents preserved in the archives of the whole world, thus becoming a reference among the main in Europe for the history of paper and watermark studies. The album, acquired in 2016 by the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation, was in poor condition: hence the need for a delicate restoration andopportunity to faithfully reproduce the volume in 500 numbered copies. The phases of the conservative restoration of the Album and the first printed edition, in its refined editorial capacity, will be presented on Friday 24 September at 3:30 pm on the occasion of the opening of the European Heritage Days, which can be watched in live streaming ( www.fondazionefedrigoni.it) with simultaneous translation into English.
