A few days before the elections, Justin Trudeau has come under accusation by his political rivals for the exclusion of Canada from the new security pact (Aukus) between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia in an anti-China function, despite sharing with these countries (and New Zealand) an intelligence sharing agreement (Five Eyes).
Both the Conservative and New Democratic Party leaders have impeached the Canadian premier by suggesting that the exclusion reflects a broader failure of the Liberal government to negotiate with key allies and take a firm stand against Beijing.
"This is another example that Trudeau is not taken seriously by our friends and allies around the world," said conservative leader Erin O'Toole, arguing that "Canada is becoming more irrelevant under him." Democratic leader Jagmeet Singh echoed him, according to which Trudeau has become too distracted from the electoral campaign to fully engage with his allies.
