(ANSA) - CAMPOBASSO, 18 SEPTEMBER - An art container that becomes a work of art in itself. This is the goal that for two years in Ferrazzano, a small village in Molise not far from Campobasso, the country of origin of Robert De Niro, has been the parallel work of the actor and director Stefano Sabelli who, between a show and the other of the small 'Teatro del Loto' which he directs, is creating a work of art that is probably unmatched in the world: the external facade of a theater completely covered with mosaics.

Sabelli, with a work done alone, has so far created over 10 mosaics, both outside and inside the building, for which over 400 hours of work have been needed.

Everything is built exclusively with waste materials, recovery.

"I realized that mosaics are now my second activity after that of director and actor - Sabelli tells ANSA - The ultimate goal is to mosaic the entire facade of the theater and create a small Parc Guell in Ferrazzano".

The mosaics are the result of whole days spent working: "At the entrance to the Lotus there is now his business card, a mosaic of about 6 square meters, the largest and most complex I have ever made. I started it there. last year and ended on September 5. It is a great puzzle made up of several thousand irregular tiles made from the resulting majolica. It was a nice puzzle to complete and it took many days of work, almost always in solitude even if every now and then some friends came to put some cards and several onlookers who passed by Piazza Spensieri in Ferrazzano kept me company and we chatted. What matters is that now the Lotus is even more beautiful, with its sign of weaving gold set among branches and cherry blossoms ".

Looking to the future, the Teatrimolisani cooperative, which in 2019 became the owner of the small theater, used the pandemic stop period to completely renovate the building's exterior, making it a de facto work of art. In addition to the mosaics, in fact, other facades of the theater were used to create huge murals visible even hundreds of meters away. "Now the theater is completely recontextualized in the village of Ferrazzano - highlights Sabelli - An added value, architectural and aesthetic, which arouses curiosity in visitors. The many tourists spent this summer in Molise and Ferrazzano, never so numerous in recent years, who, with the guides in hand, they asked us to visit what they indicated as 'the most beautiful small theater in Italy', have always certified, with added amazement, after the visit, what represents a pride for us, that is to have made our land also a container of art, as well as one of the best examples of cultural resilience of Italy's territories and the inner villages ".
