Again, many weather forecasts haunt the internet.

Some speak of a record winter.

Meteorologist Dominik Jung classifies the statements.

Kassel - At the moment some spectacular weather forecasts are haunted by the network.

Some speculate about a record winter with lots of snow and cold.

Experts also gave the first weather forecasts for the coming winter *.

Now the meteorologist Dominik Jung from Wetteret.de has commented on the supposed predictions.

One commenter, for example, read that the coming winter should be very cold.

The ice December 2010 should have been "a piece of cake" against it.

The temperatures in December 2010 were almost four degrees below the long-term climate mean.

“In Berlin and Aachen there was, I think, 30 to 45 centimeters of snow on Christmas Eve,” says Jung.

Record winter in Germany?

Weather expert Jung classifies

According to the Noaa forecast, the coming winter in December in northern and southern Germany will be "half a degree too warm," explains Jung.

December in Central Germany would be in the normal range.

According to the weather forecast, East Germany expects temperatures in January to be one degree warmer than the mean climate for the past 30 years - and West Germany is expecting temperatures to increase by half a degree.

February is also emerging as a warm winter month.

"Around one degree warmer than the comparison mean from 1991 to 2020," says Jung in the weather video.

So you see: A cold winter is - at least currently - not recognizable.

According to Jung: Weather model cannot be equated with classic forecast

But Jung limits: The model from the US weather service Noaa cannot be equated with a classic weather forecast.

It is an "experimental model" - especially the daily forecasts have little informative value.

Because: "The calculations usually change every six hours," explains Jung.

"That makes no sense".

But: The monthly forecast described above comes closer to the truth, as it takes into account an averaging of many calculations.

"And that is of course more meaningful than just relying on individual runs all the time."

The calculations cannot be compared with classic predictions of how the weather will be the next day.

“And we cannot really predict at all whether there will be snowfall on Christmas Eve in Berlin - or sun and spring weather in Munich,” says Jung.
