Small-screen stars gathered in Los Angeles on Sunday for the first time since the pandemic began on the Emmy set

The Netflix platform obtained on Sunday the consecration that had eluded it for so many years: its production "The Crown", which recounts in a romanticized way the life of the British royal family, won the Emmy Award for "best dramatic series" and won all the actor awards in its category.

On the comedy side, "Ted Lasso" won the title, also with Emmy Awards, equivalent to the Oscars of American television, for three of its actors.

Netflix even managed a double for this 73rd edition thanks to the “Lady's Game” which defeated and mate its competitors by winning the trophy for best mini-series with this global success.

Since its launch in 2007, the video-on-demand platform has collected nominations but has so far never won an Emmy Award in the most prestigious categories.

The stars of the small screen had gathered on Sunday in Los Angeles for the first time since the start of the pandemic on the set of the Emmy Awards, with a tonnage reduced to 500 handpicked guests and very strict health measures.

A large part of the team of "The Crown" had not been able to make the trip and followed the awards ceremony from London via a satellite link.

"I have no words, I'm very, very grateful," said "The Crown" creator Peter Morgan.

The fourth season of this very popular series depicts the heated marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, played by Briton Josh O'Connor.

"Turning + The Crown + has been the two most rewarding years of my life," said the actor, crowned in the drama category.

Her compatriot Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth, has imposed herself royally as the best actress, in particular against her comrade Emma Corrin, who played the role of Princess Diana.

The series also won awards for supporting roles, including Gillian Anderson (Agent Scully of "The X-Files") for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, as well as screenplay and direction.

Very close to the "Game of thrones" record

If we add awards in technical categories already awarded, the Netflix production received a total of eleven Emmy Awards, tied with "The Lady's Game" and only one trophy of the record set by "Game of Thrones".

The evening's first accolades went to Apple TV + 's comedy "Ted Lasso", with supporting Emmys for Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein.

Jason Sudeikis, who plays the main character, had received a hat trick a little later by becoming "best actor in a comedy" for this series which features an American football coach totally lost when he takes the helm of an English football team.

"Ted Lasso" finally won in this category where she was the big favorite this year.

The Apple TV + production, however, conceded the Emmy Awards for screenplay and direction, snatched by the HBO series "Hacks", with Jean Smart as a Las Vegas diva on the return, voted best actress in this category.

Side mini-series, the victory escaped Anya Taylor-Joy for "The Lady's Game", beaten by star Kate Winslet as a disillusioned policewoman for "Mare of Easttown" (HBO).
