Lidl is becoming more digital.

Following positive customer feedback, the discounter decided to offer its innovation throughout Germany.

Neckarsulm - Lidl is now doing without paper.

At least during the payment process.

The tests have been running in individual Lidl branches since the end of August, and the new checkout concept is now available in all German locations.

If the customer so wishes, the paper receipt can be replaced by a digital receipt.

For this, however, the customers have to prepare a little.

Lidl: Via the app to the digital receipt

The digital route was already possible - but only in combination with the physical note.

So paper was never saved.

However, the more environmentally friendly alternative of the purely digital receipt is not readily available to every customer.

In order to use the innovation, the discounter's app is required.

After downloading "Lidl Plus", the payment function must be activated.

At the checkout, you have to actively select in the app that you want to do without the paper receipt.

The digital receipt is in no way inferior to the analog one - product returns work with it as well.

Edeka and Lidl: Decision for the digital receipt

According to the discounter, the customers reacted positively to the renewal, which is why the digital receipt will now also be available throughout Germany. So far it was not entirely clear whether a physical receipt had to be issued for tax reasons. However, since the amendment to the law at the beginning of 2020, it has been clear that German retailers must issue a receipt. However, more and more stores are now opting for the digital alternative. Tests are already running at dm, and the function has been available to customers at Edeka for some time. The change would be worthwhile - according to

chip.de

, an average of 250 meters of receipt paper is produced per day.
