While waiting for the European Immigration and Asylum Pact to be definitively approved, "Italy - faced with increasing flows by sea linked to the situations of serious political and economic crisis in countries such as Tunisia and Libya - is waiting for the coming months from Member countries a concrete signal of solidarity on the relocation front of migrants ".

This was said by Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese, to the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, met today at the Viminale.

The minisrra also speaks in the aftermath of the fire that broke out in a migrant camp

in Vathy on the Greek island of Samos

.

Vathy is the place where a new 'closed' facility for migrants was recently inaugurated, which has sparked protests from asylum seekers and NGOs for its security measures deemed excessive.

According to samos24.gr, the fire, of vast proportions, broke out in a field other than the new structure: the migrants who are staying there must be transferred by 30 September to the new center.

The minister, "also in light of the management of refugees fleeing the dramatic situation in Afghanistan" then represented to Schinas "the urgency of a meeting between the member countries concerned, coordinated by the European Commission, to share a common line of action on management of migratory flows by land and asylum requests in the countries of first entry into the EU ".

"A pleasure to discuss with Luciana Lamorgese at the Viminale today in Rome. This week marks one year since the presentation of the" EU "Pact on migration and asylum. Europe will stand by Italy and assist it financially and operationally, but now we have we need firm and fair rules for all Member States, for the future ". The vice president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, writes this today in Rome.
