After the violence in a coach on Autobahn 9, the police have now ruled out that it was a hostage-taking.

Such a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Special police forces arrested a 30-year-old suspect on Tuesday evening after an hour-long large-scale operation on the A9 between Hilpoltstein and Greding.

The public prosecutor has filed for arrest against the man on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

He is to be brought before an investigating judge in the course of Wednesday.

The emergency services initially assumed a threat situation.

After a large number of interrogations, however, a new picture of what was going on in the bus emerged, as a message said.

Two injured after being attacked in the bus

The coach with eleven Serbian passengers and three bus drivers was on the way to Belgrade. The suspect suddenly attacked a sleeping 20-year-old passenger, threw the man on the floor and stepped on the head several times with his feet. He later received medical attention but was able to leave the hospital. In addition, the suspect is said to have hit a 24-year-old woman in the face, she was slightly injured. During the crime, the man is said to have uttered death threats and confused thoughts.

Because of the dispute, the driver parked the bus on the hard shoulder so that the passengers could get out.

According to their own statement, the bus drivers initially stayed on the bus with the suspect voluntarily.

The 30-year-old was then arrested by the special task force without resistance.

A police spokesman said that the situation from outside could not be clarified immediately.

Witnesses had spoken of a threatening situation and also a weapon.

No weapon was found during the forensic investigation and searches.

Thus, there is no evidence that would suggest a hostage-taking.

The police had already completely blocked Autobahn 9 between the Hilpoltstein and Greding junctions in both directions after the alarm was reported in the early evening.

Traffic jams formed.

The route was opened again at around 10.30 p.m.

The railway line that runs along the motorway was also temporarily closed.
