(ANSA) - VENICE, SEPTEMBER 22 - Piazza San Marco has begun to change its face with the start of work to build the glass barrier that will protect the Basilica from high waters, unexpected of the definitive functionality of the Mose and of the waterproofing of the Marciana area.
The workers of the companies involved in the project have already delimited the construction site, and started the coring to verify the presence of archaeological finds.
Then the real and proper excavation of the lanes in which the glass slabs will be positioned will begin.
Although temporary, the work is expected to remain inoperative for about 3 years.
The works will last between 3 and 6 months.
