The series of landscapes that inspired the group will go on sale from October 5 to 19 in London. The paintings are estimated between 11,000 and 17,000 euros.

Thom Yorke was painting long before he started singing.

Before achieving success, he was just an average student at the art school of Exeter, with his classmate Stanley Donwood, who became a painter.

The two artists are known, in their own way: one for his voice, the other for the design of Radiohead album covers.

Indeed, since 1994 and the release of

My Iron Lung

, the British group's third EP, Stanley Donwood has continued to make the covers of all their albums.

From October 5 to 19, Christie's will auction off six paintings by Donwood, during the

First Open: Post-War and Contemporary Art

sale

. But before finding a buyer, the paintings will be exhibited. Entitled

How To Disappear Completely

, it will be held from October 9 to 15 at Christie's in London. The price of each painting is estimated between 11,000 and 17,000 euros.

This series of winter landscapes served as essays before finding the perfect combination for the cover of

Kid A

, Radiohead's fourth studio album, released in 2000. Stanley Donwood painted them between 1999 and 2001, in a rehabilitated barn. Initially, the group bought it as a recording studio with the money they earned from their previous album,

OK Computer

, released in 1997.

We had many versions of the cover, all with different images and different titles in different typefaces

,” the painter said in a statement.

We couldn't figure out which one was the right one, so we took them all down and taped them to the kitchen cabinets and fridge, hoping the next morning the right cover and the right title. would be obvious. And it was, and his name was

Kid A.

”.

The

Kid A

album

turns

twenty-one. For the occasion, Radiohead announced a reissue of

Kid A

(2000) and

Amnesiac

(2001), his twin albums recorded at the same sessions, in the anniversary edition

KID A MNESIA

. According to Thom Yorke, it is “

a memory palace

made up of half-forgotten sessions and new material”.

In addition to the reissue is added a third bonus disc,

Amesiae,

full of recordings never revealed. The first single, the mysterious

If You Say The Word

, is already available.
