Sparkasse and Co. are increasing their account fees.
Consumer advocates now want to help customers get their money back from the bank.
Kassel - Large banks such as Sparkasse, Deutsche Bank and Co. are currently increasingly criticized for consumer protection.
The reason: the sometimes strong increase in account management fees.
But customers should now get their money back.
Some consumer advocates call the approach of the German financial institutions "procrastination tactics".
According to a report by derwesten.de, customers of the banks agreed to the payment of the fees if they did not clearly contradict corresponding letters.
Due to increased fees at Sparkasse & Co .: the court decides to reimburse the money
In April 2021, however, the Federal Court of Justice put this approach in its place.
The money from previous increases in account fees is also ultimately to be reimbursed to customers.
However, around five months have passed since the decision and the banks have not yet reacted accordingly.
That causes anger among consumer advocates.
"Banks and savings banks may not have any success if the highest court rulings are disregarded," criticized Andrea Heyer, financial expert at the consumer center in Saxony.
