After weeks of discussions, the federal and state health ministers agreed on Wednesday, September 22nd, on a nationwide regulation of compensation payments in the case of quarantine.
Here is an overview of what it was all about and what is now changing for employees:
New corona rules: what was decided?
In the event of loss of earnings due to the ordered corona quarantine, most non-vaccinated persons
should
no longer receive any compensation payments by
November 1 at the latest
.
That means: Unvaccinated workers may have to forego a lot of salary if they go into quarantine.
Some federal states are canceling the continued payment of wages earlier *.
In its decision, the
Conference of
Health Ministers refers to a passage in the Infection Protection Act (IfSG), which
explicitly excludes compensation payments in the case of quarantine
if "the quarantine order
could have been avoided
by using a publicly recommended vaccination
or other specific prophylaxis measures."
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn defended this measure in advance: “It's not about pressure, but about fairness towards the vaccinated.
Why should others pay for someone to decide not to be vaccinated? ”Said the CDU politician, according to a report by the German Press Agency (dpa) on ZDF.
Which quarantine cases does the new regulation affect?
The new regulation is only about an
officially ordered quarantine
.
For example, the health department can send contact persons from corona infected people or travelers returning from a risk area to quarantine.
For example, employees are then no longer allowed to go to the office or workplace for a certain period of time.
In these cases, there is usually no quarantine for vaccinated persons.

How has the compensation payment been made so far?
Normally, wages are paid as follows in the case of quarantine: If an employee has to go
into quarantine
through
no fault of their own
on the instructions of the health department
, they will receive continued wages from the employer in the amount of the net salary for the first six weeks.
The employer can recover this so-called compensation payment from the state authorities.
This is how it is regulated by the
Infection Protection Act (Section 56 IfSG).
This compensation payment does not apply to non-vaccinated people because they are more or less to blame for the quarantine.

Who will still receive wages in quarantine?
The cancellation of continued wages only affects unvaccinated workers for whom there is a vaccination recommendation and
who can be vaccinated

Anyone who cannot receive a Covid 19 vaccination for medical reasons is not affected.
Will the continued payment of wages for unvaccinated people also be canceled in the case of corona disease?
No, the regulation only applies to quarantine cases, not continued payment of wages in the event of illness.
