Düsseldorf - The real breakup is in full swing: there are repeated reports about new branches that have to be closed or taken over by competitors Edeka, Kaufland, Rewe or Globus.
Now the future of eight further branches has been announced.
The number of locations that finally have to close has now risen to 38.
The race for the Real locations is still not over: some locations are still shaking, but the decision on how to proceed in the future has already been made for a number of branches.
Some Bavarian locations are also already aware of their fate.
This now also includes eight further branches in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia.

As the group informs, there are now 38 branches on the list of rejected locations that have to close without direct re-use by a dealer. Amberg, Bayreuth, Tuttlingen, Tübingen, Weiden, Hemer, Pfarrkirchen and Sinzheim are new on this list. In six branches, however, there still seems to be prospects: Among other things, the Bayreuth, Amberg, Weiden and Sinzheim locations are to be closed for handover due to renovation work. However, it is not yet known which dealers could possibly take over these locations.
At the request of the
food newspaper
, a spokesman for the company explained the closings due to "plans by the new operator, which include far-reaching conceptual and structural changes".
However, the subsequent users cannot yet be named.
The affected locations are:
Amberg: Closing on May 31, 2022 due to renovation work before the handover
Bayreuth, Riedinger Straße: Closing on March 31, 2022 due to renovation work before the handover
Sinzheim: Closure on June 30, 2022 due to renovation work before the handover
Tübingen: Closure on May 31, 2022 due to renovation work before the handover
Tuttlingen: Closure on April 30, 2022 due to renovation work before the handover
Weiden: Closed on May 31, 2022 due to renovation work before handover
Hemer: Closing on June 30, 2022
Pfarrkirchen: Closing on June 30, 2022
Speculation about new operators of the Real locations: Edeka, Kaufland or Rewe?
In some cases, however, there is already speculation: As the
food newspaper
reports, Edeka is already authorized to take over the real in Bayreuth.
As announced by the city of Tübingen, a new commercial area is to be built on the site in Tübingen-Weilheim.
Since the Federal Cartel Office released the location for the supermarket chain Edeka, it can be assumed that the group will take over here as well.
According to information from the
Schwäbische Zeitung, the
Tuttlingen site is to be
taken over by Kaufland.
The end of the Real retail chain was sealed a few years ago.
But the break-up of the company has dragged on since then.
The reason for this are examinations by the Federal Cartel Office, which fears that the division will have competition-critical consequences and therefore goes through each branch individually.
