Renzo Piano, the architect who gave the cinema a home

SEEN FROM ELSEWHERE - A few days before the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the Italian architect spoke of his project.

Los Angeles had been trying unsuccessfully for a film museum for 100 years, with the quarrels and power struggles between the self-serving magnates of the Hollywood majors, and even the Great Depression of 1929, having derailed many of these projects.

In the end, the world cinema mecca had to look to Renzo Piano to have his wish granted - and "even" managed to grant him a visa to attend the opening ceremony on September 28, a privilege inaccessible to many. European personalities today (even the United Nations General Assembly in New York is held virtually).
