After four men had escaped from a closed psychiatric hospital in Weinsberg in the Heilbronn district, the police arrested one of the fugitives.
The police said on Friday that he was arrested on Thursday evening after concrete evidence of the whereabouts.
The investigators did not initially say which of the fugitives it was.
The four men managed to escape from the closed ward of the hospital on Wednesday evening.
The police are currently evaluating new findings and keeping the pressure up, it said.
The police did not provide any further information for "tactical reasons".
The search for the other fugitives continues at full speed.
Fugitives may be armed
On Thursday the police announced that the four men were considered dangerous and may be armed.
The authority also warned against taking people as hitchhikers.
The men were reportedly in the penal system.
It is about the accommodation of mentally ill or addicts offenders.
The aim is to ensure the protection of the population and therapy for patients.
The Klinikum am Weissenhof - Center for Psychiatry Weinsberg is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Heidelberg.
It is subject to the supervision of the state of Baden-Württemberg and offers psychiatric, psychotherapeutic and psychosomatic treatment and care for mentally ill people in the Heilbronn region.
