It is generally not the priority of parents when looking for a nursery, but for some, it is a significant plus.
For several years, childcare facilities for toddlers have claimed to be bilingual, most often French-English.
The goal: to familiarize, from an early age, children to a language other than French thanks to the classic and essential activities of a traditional nursery: reading, songs, but also during certain moments of everyday life (meals, falling asleep).
To read also “Outside, the children!”
: since the Covid, outdoor nurseries are gaining ground
We went to a “Plume” crèche - a multi-reception crèche, private and in this case inter-company, which belongs to a network of 18 crèches or micro-crèches, located in Paris and Ile-de-France, and which are all bilingual - to see what was going on a typical morning.
And we also asked an expert on bilingualism in children to enlighten us on the value of such an approach.
