Although he is in the middle of a big tour, Gauvain Sers is releasing a new album. More written, less militant than the previous one but still as authentic. He called it
Your Place in the World
* as a nod to the one he's trying to find. His thirteen songs are as many small pictures that a painter would make of our society. Instead, he imagines himself camera in hand taking snapshots. He recorded it all at the Ferber studio under the direction of Renaud Letang, a producer who has worked with Souchon and Manu Chao in particular.
He got there with his thirteen completely finished songs and, in reserve, two more, "in case". His previous album,
The Forgotten,
earned him the label of a political singer. With it, he corrects the situation with more neutral titles, albeit with a resolutely societal content. Gauvain Sers denies wanting to revolutionize the song, and prefers to find the perfect balance between modernity and timelessness. Apart from two songs, his lyrics remain very discreet about him.
When he wants to talk about himself, modesty commands him to talk about others.
"It would be cumbersome to talk about me on a whole album"
he said with a laughing air.
Between two concerts, he went to the Astaffort meetings created by Francis Cabrel, of which he also sponsored the 50th edition: rightly so, since it is about teaching emerging talents to use text and music, an exercise that Gauvain masters perfectly.
