Google's monthly search data shows that many of us are unsure of the correct frequency for a shower, wondering about the potential benefits of cold water for the body, and debating between a quick shower in the morning and a long one in the evening.

At Sanctuary Bathrooms we have contacted a number of health professionals to help shed light on our shower habits - and it turns out that to this day we have not really showered properly.

A quick shower is better than nothing?

If you are one of those who knocks a quick shower in the morning before you go to work, you should consider changing this habit.

Abbas Kanani, a pharmacist at Chemist Click, claims that a quick shower is not effective for our skin.

"When it comes to shower time, 8-10 minutes is usually enough to thoroughly moisturize and cleanse the skin," Abbas said.

On the other hand, even a shower that is too long is not recommended: "A long shower, especially a hot one, can remove its natural oils from the skin and cause it to dry out," he adds, "to preserve the moisture in the skin after the shower, use a moisturizer."

What is the recommended frequency for a shower?

Is washing the face in the shower effective?
