(ANSA-AFP) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 29 - The lava from the erupting volcano on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, has reached the ocean.

This was announced by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan).

"The lava flow reached the sea at Playa Nueva," reads a tweet.

Cumbre Vieja volcano has been erupting since September 19 and scientists now fear that the contact of the wash with sea water could cause explosions, waves of boiling water or, worse, toxic clouds.
