From February 2020 to August 2021, the number of non-employee workers fell by 302,000 units (-5.8%) and that of employees fell by 89,000 (-0.5%). If, in absolute terms, the former reached 4,936,000, the latter reached 17,847,000. This was revealed by the CGIA for which those who suffered the most were VAT numbers. To the problems that have always plagued micro enterprises (bureaucracy, lack of credit, taxes, etc.), the closures imposed by decree, the limitations on mobility, the collapse in household consumption and the e-commerce boom recorded in the last year and a half have worsened the situation of many self-employed who have been forced to close. In 2020 alone, household consumption in Italy fell by 130 billion euros. For months, the CGIA has been asking Prime Minister Draghi and the governors to open a permanent crisis table at national and local level to give an answer to the autonomous. Over the last 17 years, the peak of openings was in March 2004, when 6,303,000 independents were registered in Italy.

Then there was a continuous "hemorrhage" that in December 2020 brought this category of work to under 5 million.

In January 2021 it reached 4,925,000.

From February, the climb that lasted until April resumed and stopped in August at an altitude of 4,936,000.

If in these 18 months of Covid "only" 89 thousand employees have been lost, in absolute value the holders of a permanent contract have had a more marked decline than that of temporary workers: between February 2020 and August 2021, the first they fell by 57 thousand units (-0.4%), the latter, on the other hand, 32 thousand (-1.1%).
