The new James Bond adventure "No Time to Die" grossed around $ 56 million on its debut weekend in the USA.
That's a little less than hoped - and significantly less than the second part of the comic book adaptation "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," which grossed $ 90 million in the previous week and thus set a post-pandemic record at the box office in the United States.
From an international point of view, “No Time to Die”, on the other hand, is on the road to success: the film has grossed 313.3 million dollars worldwide so far.
In Germany it had its best theatrical release since 2019, in Germany it has seen over two million people since its release nine days ago.
In order to become profitable, however, the new bond still has to grow strongly.
The Hollywood Reporter estimates the production costs at $ 250 to 300 million, and the marketing costs must also have been exorbitantly high.
The hopes of the production team are now on a good start in China, where "No Time to Die" will not start until October 29th.
The numbers in the USA clearly show what was lacking there: 36 percent of the visitors were over 45 years old - an age group that is still very cautious when returning to the cinema halls due to Corona.
For comparison: With "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" only nine percent of the viewers were older than 45.
“No time to die” can therefore definitely serve as a yardstick for the readiness of the adult audience to go to the cinema again.
And hopes in the US continue to rest on this film, despite the disappointing numbers.
The Bond films of the past few years were also not record carriers on their respective opening weekends, but turned out to be long-distance runners who stayed in the cinema charts for several weeks.
