(ANSA) - MADRID, OCTOBER 11 - About 2,500 inhabitants of the island of La Palma (Canary Islands) have received from the authorities the order to take refuge at home as a precaution due to the presence in the air of gases linked to the eruption of the Cumbre Viej volcano which could be dangerous: it was announced by those responsible for the emergency plan for this natural disaster.


    The decision came after the lava ejected from the volcano reached an industrial area and a fire broke out in a cement factory that is causing potentially harmful "emissions". Investigations are underway to assess the impact on air quality, after which it will be decided whether or not to keep the confined population. L'The area covered by the directive of the authorities is located in the municipalities of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane.
