(ANSA) - LONDON, OCTOBER 11 - New surge in infections from Covid in the United Kingdom, where 40,224 cases have been counted in the last 24 hours, the highest number since 27 September, when over 40,800 had been registered. On the other hand, deaths decreased - today indicated at 28, even if the delayed collection of part of the statistics referring to the weekend weighs on this figure as usual at the beginning of the week, which are then added up in the following days - and the total number of people admitted to hospitals with serious symptoms: it now dropped back to about 6700 in the whole island.
These are figures that confirm the effectiveness attributed to vaccines in a country where the share of people aged 12 and over immunized with double doses is now around 80%;
while over a sixth of the patients hospitalized for Covid are now made up of unvaccinated pregnant women according to the national health service.
Meanwhile, the sum of over 80 already immunized with a third dose of reinforcement rises to over a third.
