(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 11 - The anti-Covid vaccines have shown 90% efficacy in the first 6 months after the second dose of vaccine in preventing serious illness and hospital admissions: this is indicated by the first partial data of the analysis conducted by European Center for Disease Control (Ecdc) through the creation of new infrastructure to monitor the effectiveness of anti-Covid vaccines over time in multiple countries, implementing studies in different facilities, including hospitals.


    In October 2021, more than 30 hospitals in 10 countries (Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal and Spain) have already joined the monitoring, to verify the action of the vaccine in real time against the disease in severe form. The first results on the efficacy of the vaccine against severe forms of Covid in patients positive for the SarsCov2 virus were published on 8 October by the ECDC on the basis of data collected between December 2020 and June 2021 and show a high efficacy of the sera in preventing hospitalizations for Covid. -19 in people over 65 years old. As the study continues, regular updates will be published, including more detailed analyzes of the variants and time since vaccination. The ECDC study also confirms theefficacy of the complete vaccination course compared to the single dose. (HANDLE).
